Bronze Eyes + Glowing Skin

Okay, okay, okay. Here we go!

I feel like this has been YEARS in the making (aka I filmed a makeup tutorial in 2012 that was shoved to the dark back corner of my hard drive and has since been lost to the data abyss). But here we are, launching for real, with my very first YouTube video, and I’m so excited/nervous to share it with you.

Huge thanks to Ella, who you can follow in Instagram here. Keep reading after the video to find out more about the look and some of the key products I used.

I know a lot of people get intimidated by the idea of doing or wearing a smokey eye, but as you can see in this video, it’s not quite as complicated as one might think. Have a little patience, and before you know it, you’ll be able to do it in your sleep.

A couple keys to this smokey eye are:

1. Using a kohl pencil smudged across the eyelid will give definition right away, helping to frame the shape you want to achieve. This also gives additional depth to any color you wish to layer on top of the pencil. For this look, I used MAC’s “Teddy” pencil, which has been a staple in my kit since I started doing makeup. For a more intense look, you can use a black pencil (or blue, or green, etc.).

2. To make the eye look more effortless, I used only two eyeshadows–one warm matte color for the main shape, and one sheer pearlescent color. I used the second color to layer over and blend the edges of the matte shade, making blending easy and seamless. Bonus: this shade has a lovely sheen to it, so it adds a nice bounce of light where you might want, like the inner corner of the eye. Both colors are from Inglot. They have an amazing range of colors, and so far all the colors I’ve tried have been great. Also at around $7 each, they’re also fairly inexpensive, so I definitely recommend them for new (and not new) artists who are building their kit.

Additionally, I’ll go ahead note that I prepped the skin before we started filming. It’s important not to skip this step, as it makes all the products you use for the complexion apply and look better, as well as last longer. All the products I used for this (as well as everything else) are listed below.

Hope you find this video useful–let me know what you think. Also if there are specific looks you want to see coming from my new channel, let me know!

Til next time! xoxo Kale
